LALA, Lanao del Norte — A newlywed man identified only by the alias “Abdul” was shot dead by an unidentified gunman while having a meal with his wife inside a Minute Burger outlet in Barangay Maranding, Lala, Lanao del Norte, on the evening of July 20, 2026, in what authorities are initially investigating as a possible case of rido or clan feud.
The fatal shooting occurred at around 6:00 p.m. along the national highway in Maranding, sending customers and nearby residents into panic as gunfire rang out inside the fast-food establishment.
According to initial information gathered by investigators and witnesses, the victim, believed to be in his late 20s, was peacefully eating with his wife when an armed suspect suddenly entered the store, approached him, and shot him in the head at close range.
The victim sustained fatal gunshot wounds and died at the scene despite the immediate response of concerned individuals.
Witnesses said the assailant fled immediately after the attack, escaping on a single motorcycle driven by an accomplice. The suspects sped away before responding authorities could arrive, prompting police to launch a hot pursuit operation.
Wife Witnesses Husband’s Killing
The attack unfolded in front of the victim’s wife, who reportedly watched helplessly as her husband was gunned down.
Residents said the couple had only recently been married, making the incident even more tragic as what was supposed to be an ordinary dinner turned into a deadly attack.
The woman was left in deep shock following the killing.
Police Investigating Possible ‘Rido’
Law enforcement authorities have yet to officially identify the suspects but disclosed that one of the angles being investigated is rido, a longstanding clan feud that remains a recurring source of violence in parts of Mindanao.
Investigators are gathering CCTV footage from nearby establishments, interviewing witnesses, and conducting forensic examinations to determine the identity of the gunman and whether the attack was planned.
Authorities are also working to establish whether the victim had previously received threats or had any known disputes that could have led to the shooting.
Hot Pursuit Underway
Police units immediately launched pursuit operations and established checkpoints in nearby areas to intercept the fleeing suspects.
Authorities appealed to the public to cooperate by providing any information that could help identify the gunman and those who may have masterminded the attack.
As of this writing, no arrests have been made, and investigators continue to build the case against those responsible.
Police assured the victim’s family that every effort is being undertaken to identify, locate, and arrest all individuals involved in the killing and ensure they are brought before the courts to face the full force of the law.
