CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — Large parts of Mindanao are expected to experience cloudy skies, scattered rains, and thunderstorms as the Southwest Monsoon or “Habagat” continues to affect the region, according to the latest regional weather forecast issued by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA)-Mindanao Regional Services Division (MINPRSD).

In its 5:00 a.m. forecast issued Monday, June 1, 2026, PAGASA said the Zamboanga Peninsula, Basilan, and Tawi-Tawi are expected to experience cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms caused by the prevailing Southwest Monsoon.
Weather forecasters warned that moderate to at times heavy rainfall may trigger flash floods and landslides, particularly in low-lying and mountainous areas vulnerable to flooding and soil erosion.
Among the areas expected to receive persistent rains and thunderstorms are Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay, Isabela City in Basilan, Basilan province, and Tawi-Tawi.
Temperatures in these areas are forecast to range between 23°C and 33°C, while winds will remain light to moderate coming from the southwest. Coastal waters across affected areas are expected to be slight to moderate with wave heights ranging from 0.6 to 2.1 meters.
Meanwhile, the rest of Mindanao, including Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, SOCCSKSARGEN, Caraga Region, and most areas in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms.
PAGASA said localized thunderstorms may still bring sudden heavy downpours capable of causing flash floods or landslides during severe weather episodes.
In Northern Mindanao, Bukidnon, Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental, and Misamis Oriental are expected to experience intermittent rains and thunderstorms with temperatures ranging from 20°C to 32°C.
In the Davao Region, Metro Davao, Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro, and Davao Occidental are forecast to have partly cloudy skies with occasional rainshowers and thunderstorms. Temperatures in the region may reach up to 34°C, particularly in Davao del Norte and neighboring provinces.
Areas under SOCCSKSARGEN, including North Cotabato, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, and Sarangani, are also expected to experience isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms with temperatures ranging from 23°C to 32°C.
In the Caraga Region, Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Dinagat Islands are forecast to experience similar weather conditions, with partly cloudy skies becoming cloudy at times due to thunderstorms. Temperatures may range from 25°C to 34°C.
Within BARMM, Cotabato City, Lanao del Sur, Sulu, Maguindanao del Norte, and Maguindanao del Sur are expected to have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms. However, Basilan and Tawi-Tawi remain among the areas under closer monitoring due to heavier monsoon rains.
PAGASA advised residents living near rivers, coastal areas, and landslide-prone communities to remain alert for possible weather disturbances, especially during periods of intense thunderstorms.
Fisherfolk and small sea vessels were likewise advised to exercise caution while venturing into the sea due to moderate coastal conditions brought by the Southwest Monsoon.
The regional weather forecast remains valid until 5:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 2, 2026. PAGASA encouraged the public to continue monitoring official weather bulletins and advisories for updates and possible warnings.
