DAVAO CITY — Authorities arrested two suspected drug peddlers, including a high-value individual, during a successful anti-drug operation in Barangay Tugbok Proper, reinforcing the intensified campaign against illegal narcotics in the city.

Operatives from the Davao City Police Office (DCPO), led by City Director Police Colonel Peter B. Madria, carried out the joint buy-bust operation on May 2, 2026, at Purok 10, Barangay Tugbok Proper in Tugbok District.

The operation, spearheaded by the Police Station 9 – Tugbok Drug Enforcement Unit under Police Major Neil M. Vistar, in coordination with the 2nd City Mobile Force Company led by Police Major Rowel Saludez, resulted in the arrest of alias “Madi,” a 29-year-old woman tagged as a Street-Level High-Value Individual (HVI), and her 38-year-old male companion. Both suspects are residents of the area and were allegedly involved in illegal drug activities.

Police reported that poseur-buyers successfully purchased illegal drugs from the suspects, leading to their immediate arrest. Confiscated from their possession were three sachets of suspected shabu with an estimated street value of ₱146,200, based on standard drug pricing.

Authorities described the operation as a significant step in dismantling local drug networks and curbing the proliferation of illegal substances within communities.

“This accomplishment highlights our unwavering commitment to intensify anti-illegal drug operations and ensure safer communities,” the DCPO said in a statement.

The police emphasized that removing such individuals from the streets helps protect families and communities, particularly the youth, from the dangers posed by illegal drugs and related criminal activities.

The DCPO also reiterated that illegal drugs remain a major threat to public safety and order, often fueling crimes and endangering lives. Officials stressed that sustained operations are crucial not only in preventing the spread of drugs but also in addressing criminality linked to substance abuse.

Authorities likewise expressed gratitude to the public for their continued cooperation, noting that community vigilance plays a crucial role in the success of law enforcement efforts. Residents were urged to report suspicious activities to help maintain peace and order.

The suspects are currently under police custody as authorities prepare to file charges for violation of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

If convicted, the accused could face severe penalties, including life imprisonment, under Philippine law.
