A 26-year-old man from Malaybalay City was arrested after authorities discovered an undocumented firearm during an inspection at a joint military and police checkpoint in Calinan District on Wednesday.

According to a report from the Calinan Police Station, the suspect, a resident of Zone 7, Barangay 1, Springside, Malaybalay City, was intercepted while passing through the light vehicle lane of the established AFP-PNP checkpoint in Purok 2, Barangay Lacson, Calinan District, Davao City.
Authorities said the man was driving a Toyota Vios when personnel assigned at the checkpoint noticed the handle of a .22 caliber revolver protruding from his sling bag during the routine inspection.
The operatives immediately conducted further verification and asked the suspect to present the necessary documents for the firearm. However, he reportedly failed to show legal papers authorizing him to possess and carry the weapon.
The suspect was subsequently arrested for alleged violation of Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, which governs the ownership, registration, and carrying of firearms and ammunition in the country.
The confiscated .22 caliber revolver was taken into police custody as evidence, while the suspect remains under the custody of authorities pending the filing of appropriate charges.
Police and military authorities continue to intensify checkpoint operations across strategic areas in Davao City as part of ongoing security and anti-criminality measures aimed at preventing the transport of loose firearms and other illegal items.
