Residents across Mindanao should expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms over the next 24 hours as the easterlies continue to affect the region, according to the latest regional weather forecast issued by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Saturday morning.

The forecast, released at 5:00 a.m. by PAGASA’s Mindanao Regional Services Division (MINPRSD), will remain valid until 5:00 a.m. on May 10.

PAGASA said the prevailing easterlies — warm winds coming from the Pacific Ocean — are expected to bring generally fair weather conditions during the day, but localized thunderstorms may still develop, especially in the afternoon and evening.

Weather forecasters warned that sudden heavy downpours, lightning, and gusty winds may occur in areas affected by thunderstorms.

Eastern Mindanao, including parts of the Davao and Caraga regions, will experience moderate winds coming from the east to northeast with moderate coastal waters ranging from 1.2 to 2.5 meters.

Meanwhile, the rest of Mindanao will have light to moderate winds from the northeast to east with slight to moderate sea conditions ranging from 0.6 to 1.8 meters.

In the Zamboanga Peninsula, including Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay, and Isabela City, temperatures are expected to range from 24°C to 35°C with occasional rainshowers and thunderstorms.

The Northern Mindanao provinces of Bukidnon, Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental, and Misamis Oriental will also experience similar weather conditions, with daytime temperatures reaching as high as 34°C.

In the Davao Region, including Davao City, Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro, and Davao Occidental, moderate winds and moderate coastal waters are expected. Temperatures may climb between 31°C and 35°C during the day before slightly cooling at night.

The SOCCSKSARGEN region, covering South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, and Cotabato, will continue to experience partly cloudy skies with possible thunderstorms and temperatures ranging from 24°C to 34°C.

In the Caraga Region, the provinces of Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Dinagat Islands are expected to experience moderate winds and occasional thunderstorms, with temperatures ranging from 24°C to 35°C.

Meanwhile, in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), including Cotabato City, Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Maguindanao del Norte, and Maguindanao del Sur, residents can expect isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms with temperatures ranging from 23°C to 34°C.

PAGASA advised fishermen and small seacraft operators, particularly along the eastern seaboards of Mindanao, to remain cautious due to moderate sea conditions.

The weather bureau also urged the public to stay alert for possible flash floods or landslides in low-lying and mountainous areas during severe thunderstorms.
