GENERAL SANTOS CITY — A purok official was shot dead in a brazen late-morning attack on Saturday, February 28, 2026, in Purok Alngabong, Mudia Extension, Barangay Labangal, sending shock and alarm among residents.

The victim was identified as Danilo Porras, 59, a resident of the area and a recognized purok kagawad who also served as part of the local peacekeeping force in the community.

According to initial reports and witness accounts, Porras was driving his tricycle at around 11:00 a.m. while heading home with his wife after buying supplies when the attack occurred. Witnesses said a motorcycle carrying two unidentified men suddenly approached them from behind. The back rider, reportedly wearing a bonnet, allegedly fired a shot that struck Porras in the head.

The victim died instantly at the scene.

Relatives of Porras were devastated upon learning of the incident. His relative, Marshal Porras, expressed shock and grief, describing the slain official as a kind and well-respected member of the community.

Residents in the area said the incident unfolded quickly, leaving little chance for bystanders to respond. The daylight killing has raised concerns among locals about safety, especially since the victim was known to be active in maintaining peace and order within the purok.

Authorities said investigators are now pursuing several angles, including reports that Porras had been involved in a personal dispute about three weeks ago, which was reportedly settled prior to the shooting. Police are currently working to determine whether the previous conflict could be connected to the attack.

The police have launched a full investigation and manhunt to identify the suspects and establish the motive behind the killing. Officers are also reviewing witness statements and possible leads in the area.

The fatal shooting adds to growing concerns over riding-in-tandem attacks, a method commonly used in targeted killings across parts of Mindanao and other areas in the country.

Local officials and residents are calling for swift justice for Porras, emphasizing his role as a community volunteer who helped keep order in their neighborhood.

As of this writing, authorities continue to gather evidence while urging anyone with information about the suspects or the incident to come forward.
