Pikit, North Cotabato, February 28, 2026 — A horrifying act of violence unfolded past 1:00 p.m. this Saturday in Barangay Kolambog, Pikit, when two individuals riding a “payong-payong” tricycle were shot dead in broad daylight, leaving a 10-year-old child injured.

The victims have been identified as Alvin Mascod Alimao, 47, a married tricycle driver from Barangay San Mateo, Aleosan, and Norhaya Mascod Alagasi, 39, a married resident of Upper Labas, Aleosan, Cotabato. Alagasi’s 10-year-old child, who was also aboard the tricycle, sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment at a nearby hospital.

According to initial police reports, the victims were traveling from their home to Kolambog, Pikit, on a black Kawasaki Bajaj 100 “payong-payong” tricycle bearing plate number M166IA. Upon reaching the boundary area of Kolambog and Silik, four unidentified male assailants on separate motorcycles suddenly appeared and opened fire without warning.

Eyewitnesses recounted that the attackers fired multiple shots from behind, striking the driver and female passenger in the head and other parts of their bodies, resulting in immediate fatalities. Authorities recovered nine fired cartridge cases and two slugs from the crime scene, all believed to have come from a .45-caliber pistol used by the gunmen.

Following the attack, the assailants fled in an unknown direction. Police units from the Pikit Municipal Police Station, together with other PNP and military units, have launched a pursuit operation to track down the suspects, while a follow-up investigation continues to determine the motive behind the killings.

Family members quickly retrieved the bodies of Alimao and Alagasi from the scene, while the injured child was rushed to the hospital for emergency care. Local residents expressed shock and fear, calling the incident a chilling reminder of the growing insecurity in the area.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the suspects or the incident to come forward, as they continue to piece together evidence and canvass the surrounding areas.

This tragic shooting marks a serious escalation of violence in Pikit, highlighting the urgent need for enhanced security measures and swift justice for the victims.
