GENERAL SANTOS CITY — Police arrested a 34-year-old man identified as Lito Mediang Rehang, also known as “Pito,” on Tuesday afternoon, October 13, 2026, for his alleged involvement in the fatal shooting of businessman and salon owner Renante “Ren” Tampus inside his establishment in General Santos City in January 2025.

The arrest was carried out at around 1 p.m. in Purok Pandian, Barangay Labangal, through the implementation of a warrant of arrest for murder under Article 248 of the Revised Penal Code. The court issued the warrant on April 8, 2025, with no bail recommended for the accused.
Authorities identified Rehang as a regional-level most wanted person, reportedly ranked No. 10, prompting law enforcement personnel to bring him to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Regional Field Unit 12 for documentation and appropriate disposition following his arrest.
The operation was led by the CIDG-12 Sarangani Provincial Field Unit, with support from the Regional Intelligence Unit 12 Provincial Intelligence Team, Police Station 1 of the General Santos City Police Office, the 1st Special Purpose Motorcycle Company (SPMC), the Provincial Intelligence Unit of the Sarangani Police Provincial Office, the Malapatan Municipal Police Station, and the Sarangani Maritime Police Station.
Salon owner was shot inside his establishment
Tampus was fatally shot at approximately 6:55 p.m. on January 15, 2025, inside Renatanara Salon, located at RD Plaza Mall along Daproza Avenue in Barangay Dadiangas West, General Santos City.
Initial accounts of the case identified Rehang as the alleged gunman. Tampus was reportedly rushed to a medical facility after sustaining gunshot wounds to the chest and leg, but he later succumbed to his injuries.
Investigators reportedly considered a personal grudge as a possible motive, citing previous disagreements involving salon transactions, a crude oil-related business, and investments. The available information, however, does not establish the motive as a judicially proven fact.
Rehang was described in the case information as a former business partner of Tampus and a relative of Tampus’ former boyfriend. These reported personal and business connections formed part of the background surrounding the investigation.
Alleged lookout previously arrested
Authorities had earlier arrested another individual identified only as alias “Jack,” who was allegedly involved as a lookout in the killing. Information from the earlier arrest reportedly helped investigators identify other persons suspected of involvement in the case.
The arrest of Rehang marks a significant development in the investigation into Tampus’ killing, which occurred more than a year and nine months before the latest police operation.
Police have yet to provide further details in the information available about the suspect’s subsequent court proceedings or whether additional suspects remain at large.
Rehang remains an accused person in the murder case. His arrest and the issuance of a warrant do not, by themselves, establish guilt, which must be determined through judicial proceedings.
