GENERAL SANTOS CITY — Another shooting incident rocked General Santos City on Monday night, May 18, after a 40-year-old former convict was shot multiple times by unidentified riding-in-tandem suspects in Purok San Roque, Barangay Labangal.

The victim, identified only by the alias “Jan-Jan,” was left in critical condition following the attack, according to initial information from the Makar Police Station.

Authorities said the shooting occurred in Purok San Roque, Barangay Labangal, triggering panic among residents in the area as gunshots suddenly rang out late in the evening. Witnesses claimed the suspects immediately fled the scene after the attack, escaping before law enforcers could intercept them.

Police investigators who responded to the incident immediately cordoned off the area and launched an investigation to determine the motive behind the shooting and identify the perpetrators.

Residents told authorities that the victim was reportedly not originally from the area and was only staying in the barangay. Some locals also admitted they were hesitant to speak openly about the incident, raising fears that possible witnesses may be withholding information due to concerns for their safety.

The latest attack adds to the growing concern over gun-related violence and riding-in-tandem shootings in the city, a method commonly associated with targeted killings and criminal retaliation.

As of writing, authorities have yet to disclose whether the victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds or if investigators have already identified possible persons of interest. The condition of the victim remains critical as he continues to receive medical treatment.

Police continue to conduct follow-up operations and backtracking efforts, including the review of possible CCTV footage and witness accounts that could help track down the suspects.

Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the incident to coordinate with the nearest police station as the investigation remains ongoing.
