A 12-year-old child died after being struck by a rock allegedly thrown by a 20-year-old suspect in Sitio Patag, Barangay San Luis, Gingoog City, authorities reported.

According to initial police reports, the suspect reportedly hurled a rock at a 17-year-old individual during an altercation, hitting the teenager in the head and causing injuries. However, the same rock unexpectedly struck the 12-year-old victim, who collapsed after the impact.

Residents immediately rushed the injured child to a hospital for emergency treatment, but despite efforts to save the victim, the child later died from the injuries sustained in the incident.

Police confirmed that the suspect, described as a 20-year-old single male, is now under police custody. Authorities are preparing to file multiple charges against him in connection with the incident.

Meanwhile, the victim’s body has been laid to rest, as family members and community residents continue to call for justice over the tragic incident that claimed the life of the young victim.

Investigators are still gathering further details, including the circumstances that led to the altercation and whether additional charges may be filed as the case progresses.
