EL SALVADOR CITY, Misamis Oriental — Several provinces in Northern Mindanao and Caraga are expected to experience cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and isolated thunderstorms on Sunday, February 22, as a shear line affects parts of the region, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

In its 5:00 a.m. regional weather forecast issued by the Mindanao Regional Services Division, PAGASA said the shear line will bring unsettled weather conditions over Misamis Oriental, Camiguin, Surigao del Norte, and Dinagat Islands from 5:00 a.m. Sunday until 5:00 a.m. Monday. Moderate to at times heavy rainfall may trigger possible flash floods or landslides, particularly in low-lying and mountainous areas.
The rest of Mindanao will generally experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms due to the easterlies. While most areas are expected to have generally fair weather for parts of the day, PAGASA warned that severe thunderstorms could still lead to localized flash floods or landslides.
Light to moderate winds blowing from the east to northeast will prevail across Mindanao, with coastal waters expected to remain slight to moderate, with wave heights ranging from 0.6 to 2.1 meters.
Zamboanga Peninsula
In the Zamboanga Peninsula, including Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay, and Isabela City, residents can expect partly cloudy skies that may turn cloudy at times with rainshowers or thunderstorms throughout the day and evening.
Daytime temperatures in the region will range from about 22°C to 31°C, gradually cooling overnight to between 22°C and 29°C. Winds will remain light to moderate from the east to northeast, while coastal waters will be slight to moderate.
Northern Mindanao
Weather conditions in Northern Mindanao will vary. While Bukidnon, Lanao del Norte, and Misamis Occidental are expected to see partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms, heavier cloud cover and rain are forecast over Misamis Oriental and Camiguin due to the shear line.
Temperatures across the region will range from around 18°C to 30°C during the day, dropping to between 19°C and 28°C overnight.
Davao Region
Across the Davao Region, including Davao City and the provinces of Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro, and Davao Occidental, residents should expect partly cloudy skies that may become cloudy at times with scattered rainshowers or thunderstorms.
Temperature ranges across the region are forecast between 21°C and 31°C during the day, easing slightly to around 21°C to 29°C overnight. Coastal waters remain slight to moderate.
SOCCSKSARGEN and Caraga
In SOCCSKSARGEN, including North Cotabato, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, and Sarangani, weather conditions will remain generally partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.
Meanwhile, in the Caraga Region, partly cloudy to cloudy skies are expected in Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, and Surigao del Sur. However, Surigao del Norte and Dinagat Islands will continue to experience cloudy conditions with rainshowers and thunderstorms brought by the shear line.
BARMM Areas
In the Bangsamoro region, including Cotabato City, Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Maguindanao del Norte, and Maguindanao del Sur, residents should also expect partly cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms, with temperatures ranging from about 20°C to 32°C.
PAGASA advised residents, particularly those in areas affected by the shear line, to remain alert for possible flooding and landslides, especially during periods of moderate to heavy rainfall and severe thunderstorms. Fisherfolk and small seacraft operators were also urged to take precautions due to moderate coastal conditions across Mindanao waters.
