DAVAO CITY — Cloudy skies, scattered thunderstorms, and the risk of flash floods and landslides will continue to affect large parts of Mindanao as a shear line influences regional weather conditions, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA)–Mindanao said in its latest forecast issued at 5:00 a.m. on January 30, 2026.

According to PAGASA’s Mindanao Regional Services Division (MINPRSD), the Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Davao Oriental are expected to experience cloudy to overcast skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms caused by the shear line. Rainfall in these areas may be moderate to heavy at times, raising the possibility of flash floods and landslides, especially in low-lying and mountainous communities.

In Davao Oriental, weather conditions are forecast to remain particularly unfavorable from evening until the following day, with cloudy skies, frequent rainshowers, and thunderstorms, accompanied by moderate to strong winds from the northeast to north. Coastal waters along the province are expected to be moderate to rough, posing risks to small seacraft and fishing activities.

Meanwhile, the rest of Mindanao, including much of the Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, SOCCSKSARGEN, BARMM, and interior areas of the Davao Region, will generally experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rainshowers or thunderstorms due to localized weather systems. However, PAGASA cautioned that severe thunderstorms could still trigger localized flash floods or landslides, particularly during periods of intense rainfall.

Winds and Sea Conditions

PAGASA reported that moderate to strong winds from the northeast to north will prevail over the eastern section of Mindanao, resulting in moderate to rough sea conditions. Mariners, especially those operating small fishing boats and passenger vessels, were advised to exercise caution or avoid sailing altogether during unfavorable conditions.

In contrast, the rest of Mindanao will experience light to moderate winds from the same direction, with light to moderate seas ranging from 0.6 to 2.5 meters, which are generally manageable but still require vigilance.

Temperature Outlook Across Mindanao

Temperatures across the region are expected to remain warm to hot, with daytime highs ranging from 28°C to as high as 35°C in some inland and southern areas, including parts of Zamboanga del Sur and Maguindanao del Sur. Cooler temperatures, particularly during the early morning hours, may be felt in upland areas such as Bukidnon, where lows may dip to around 19–20°C.

Public Advisory

PAGASA urged local government units, disaster risk reduction offices, and residents in vulnerable areas to remain alert, monitor official weather updates, and take precautionary measures against flooding, landslides, and rough sea conditions. Fisherfolk and coastal communities along eastern Mindanao were specifically advised to heed warnings related to strong winds and rough seas.
