Mindanao, Philippines – September 16, 2025 — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has reported two active Low Pressure Areas (LPAs) affecting the country, bringing cloudy skies, scattered rainshowers, and thunderstorms to parts of Mindanao and nearby regions.
As of 3:00 AM Tuesday, one LPA was spotted 460 kilometers west of Coron, Palawan (12.6°N, 116.0°E), while another was located 190 kilometers east-northeast of Juban, Sorsogon (13.2°N, 125.7°E). These weather disturbances, combined with the prevailing southwest monsoon, are expected to trigger moderate to at times heavy rains across several provinces.
Rainy Conditions Across Mindanao
PAGASA said the Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), and SOCCSKSARGEN will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms throughout the day. The weather bureau warned of possible flash floods and landslides in flood-prone and mountainous areas due to the intensity of rainfall.
Other parts of Mindanao will see partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms caused by localized thunderstorms. PAGASA noted that severe thunderstorms may still result in sudden flooding or landslides.
