MARAWI CITY — The Bangsamoro Government, through the Bangsamoro Transition Authority’s (BTA) Special Committee on Marawi Recovery, Reconstruction, and Rehabilitation, conducted a series of oversight hearings from August 4 to 6 at the Marawi Convention Center to assess the progress of the city’s rehabilitation efforts following the 2017 siege.

The hearings, led by Committee Chair and Marawi Rehabilitation Program (MRP) Program Manager MP Said Shiek, aimed to ensure transparency, enhance inter-agency coordination, and reaffirm the government’s commitment to timely and inclusive assistance for internally displaced persons (IDPs).

“The information we gather from this hearing will serve as a guide to make existing and ongoing initiatives for our IDPs more inclusive,” Shiek said. “Rebuilding Marawi is a sacred obligation that we have to fulfill for the sake of our brothers and sisters who were displaced by the siege.”

During the three-day session, the Ministry of Social Services and Development reported releasing ₱1.73 billion in aid to IDPs from 2020 to 2025. The Marawi Compensation Board, meanwhile, disclosed that ₱2.1 billion had been awarded to 1,268 claimants, with full distribution to remaining beneficiaries targeted by 2028 under Republic Act No. 11696.

The MRP also reported that 36,376 IDPs have been served since 2020 through various programs in collaboration with ministries and local government units.

The hearings provided a venue for IDP leaders, barangay officials, and representatives from government agencies and civil society organizations to share updates, identify challenges, and offer policy recommendations to improve ongoing programs.

Committee Vice Chair MP Amer Zaakaria A. Rakim, Deputy Chief Minister Aleem Ali Solaiman, and MP Rashdi Adiong also attended the hearings.

The BTA created the Special Committee on Marawi Recovery as an oversight and policy-support body to ensure the effective and timely rehabilitation of Marawi City — a priority under the Government of the Day’s Enhanced 12-Point Priority Agenda.
