Marawi City, Philippines – Governor Mamintal “Bombit” Alonto Adiong, Jr., showcased the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM)-funded programs spearheaded by the Provincial Government of Lanao del Sur (PGLDS) during the Special Committee for Marawi Recovery, Reconstruction, and Rehabilitation’s hearings on November 13, 2024. The event was held at the Santorini Hotel, Marawi City, and aimed to evaluate the progress of efforts to rebuild and restore the war-torn city.
In his address to the committee, Gov. Adiong expressed gratitude for the opportunity to present the milestones of the PGLDS. He emphasized the province’s commitment to transparency and accountability in delivering on promises made to the people of Marawi.
“We were challenged to deliver decent and honest work that does not pay lip service to our promises; rather, we have observed and maintained the best practices in the performance of our duties and responsibilities, ensuring the permanence of a government that works with its constituents to achieve the full essence of rehabilitation,” he stated.
Gov. Adiong also highlighted the crucial role of stakeholders in the recovery process, describing their assistance as instrumental in enabling the PGLDS to function as a unifying force within the community.
“A symbol of optimism and hope for the Bangsamoro as it continues to define what Moral Governance stands for, which has grown from a single idea to a beacon and brilliant foundation for our government institutions,” he added.
During the presentation, Gov. Adiong detailed key initiatives undertaken by the PGLDS, including the Marawi City Water System Project, which aims to improve access to clean water, alongside efforts in social services, infrastructure restoration, and other essential recovery programs.
The hearings brought together local officials, stakeholders, and committee members to discuss the challenges and achievements in Marawi’s recovery journey. The initiatives highlighted by the governor underscored the commitment of the BARMM and PGLDS to fostering lasting development and hope in Marawi City.
As the province continues to work toward its vision of a fully rehabilitated Marawi, Gov. Adiong reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to ensuring that recovery efforts reflect the principles of Moral Governance and serve as a model for sustainable development across the region.
