BULDON, Maguindanao del Norte – “Peace begins when trust is restored, and today Buldon takes another firm step toward lasting peace,” declared Mayor Pahmia Aratuc Manalao-Masurong as the municipality, in partnership with the 1st Marine Brigade, successfully held the Turnover Ceremony for Loose Firearms under the Balik Baril Program on Saturday, August 9, 2025.

The ceremony, held at the PAMM Compound in Barangay Oring, brought together local leaders, military officials, and residents in a shared commitment to end armed conflict, foster cooperation, and strengthen peace, security, and development in the municipality.
Among those present were Vice Mayor Abolais Aratuc Manalao; Brigadier General Larry C. Batalla, Commander of the 1st Marine Brigade; Lieutenant Colonel John A. De La Cruz, Commander of the Marine Battalion Landing Team-2 (MBLT-2); Captain Elmar Elarcoza, Buldon Chief of Police; members of the Sangguniang Bayan; and barangay chairmen from Oring, Cabayuan, and Ampuan.
The surrendered firearms, which included high-powered weapons, were turned over voluntarily by residents and barangay leaders, reflecting the bravery of individuals who chose unity over division and peace over violence.
“This turnover represents more than just the surrender of firearms; it signifies the surrender of fear, the opening of hearts, and the rebuilding of trust between the government, security forces, and the community,” Mayor Manalao-Masurong said.
The Balik Baril Program, implemented in close cooperation between the local government, the Armed Forces of the Philippines, and local communities, aims to reduce the proliferation of loose firearms and create safer environments conducive to progress.
For Buldon, the day’s event was not just a military or political milestone, but a community triumph—a testament to the belief that dialogue, mutual respect, and sustained cooperation pave the way to lasting peace.
“Together,” Mayor Manalao-Masurong stressed, “we will continue working toward a safer, stronger, and more peaceful Buldon.”
