Davao City – A buy-bust operation conducted under the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group’s (CIDG) Oplan Megashopper led to the seizure of smuggled cigarettes worth ₱435,000 along Sampaguita Street, Juna Subdivision, Matina at around 4:05 PM on July 2.
Arrested during the operation were three suspects identified only by their aliases: Tee, 56, a Chinese national residing in Valencia, Bukidnon; Jahid, 46, a resident of Isla Verde, Davao City; and Aisal, 29, also a local resident.
Authorities recovered 11 master cases of suspected smuggled cigarettes from two brands, a white Mazda minivan allegedly used for transport, and boodle money used during the police operation.
The suspects will face charges for violating Republic Act No. 10643, also known as An Act to Effectively Instill Health Consciousness Through Graphic Health Warnings on Tobacco Products.
The CIDG continues to intensify its anti-smuggling and anti-illegal trade efforts in Davao City and nearby areas.
