BONGAO, Tawi-Tawi — In a decisive move against illegal drug activities, five individuals were arrested in Barangay Tubig Boh, Bongao on May 21 during a targeted police operation by the Bongao Municipal Police Station (MPS).
Police operatives apprehended the suspects while they were reportedly caught in the act of possessing illegal substances. Confiscated during the operation were one heat-sealed transparent plastic sachet containing approximately two grams of suspected shabu, with an estimated street value of ₱13,600, and 32 heat-sealed plastic straws containing about 0.96 grams of the same substance, valued at around ₱6,528.
Authorities confirmed that all suspects are currently detained at the Bongao MPS and will be facing charges for violating Republic Act No. 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
The successful operation was made possible through a tip-off from a concerned citizen and the swift response of the police.
“This operation sends a strong message that our policemen are committed to protecting our communities. We are listening, we are responding, and we will continue to pursue those who threaten the safety and security of our people,” said Police Brigadier General Romeo J. Macapaz, Regional Director of the Police Regional Office Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (PRO BAR).
The PNP continues to urge the public to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activities in their communities as part of the collective effort to eradicate illegal drugs in the region.
