Despite the challenges brought by recent calamities, the crisis has revealed the unwavering unity and resilience of Davao Oriental as a province.
Leading this inspiring response is Governor Niño Uy, whose hands-on leadership became a source of strength and hope for affected communities. Governor Uy personally visited the hardest-hit areas to assess the situation and identify the most urgent needs of the people.
Beyond assessment, Governor Uy also spearheaded the province-wide relief operations, ensuring that all families across 183 barangays received aid — with no one left behind. During the onslaught of shearline rains and a low-pressure area in early 2024, a total of 221,428 households benefited from the immediate assistance provided by the Provincial Government.
To strengthen the province’s preparedness for future disasters, Governor Uy launched the ALAB Program, short for “Alalay alang sa mas Luwas ug Andam nga mga Barangay ng Probinsya” (Assistance for Safer and Disaster-Ready Barangays). Implemented through Executive Order No. 48, Series of 2024, the program focuses on disaster preparedness, education, and rice aid distribution. It aims to equip communities with knowledge and capacity — even without a formal disaster declaration.
Through collaboration with provincial offices and local stakeholders, ALAB has become a cornerstone of Davao Oriental’s readiness and resilience during times of crisis.
The program also includes continuous training for barangay leaders, community guards, volunteers, and family members, empowering them to become active participants in disaster preparedness and safety efforts.
Under the ALAB Program and Relief Operations: 📌 221,428 families received aid during the shearline event
📌 135,678 families were served under the ALAB Program for disaster preparedness
📌 115 barangays were visited and assisted throughout the province
In true Bayanihan spirit, Davao Oriental has faced these challenges head-on. Under Governor Uy’s leadership, aid was delivered swiftly and efficiently — a testament to genuine, people-centered governance.
The province continues to build disaster-resilient communities, in partnership with organizations and local government units, working hand in hand toward a safer and more prepared Davao Oriental.
