Panamao, Sulu – March 13, 2025 – In a landmark event for peacebuilding, a 30-year-long Rido and two other horizontal conflicts were successfully resolved in a historic settlement held at the Municipal Hall of Barangay Seit Poblacion, Panamao, Sulu. The conflicts, which affected Barangays Bud Seit/Kan-ukol, Lakit, and Lower Patibulan, were amicably settled, marking a significant step towards long-term peace and stability in the region.
This milestone event is the first-ever simultaneous resolution of three major disputes in a single day, underscoring the commitment of the involved parties to end long-standing feuds and prevent further escalation. The initiative was spearheaded by Panamao Municipal Mayor, Hon. Al-Frazier S. Abdurajak, with the collaboration and support of various stakeholders from multiple sectors and agencies. Among those present were BGen. Alaric Avelino Delos Santos, Brigade Commander of the 1102nd Brigade; Mr. Al-Shameir H. Aminulla, MPOS-Community Affairs Officer III-Sulu; LTC. Homer A. Estolas, Battalion Commander of the 21st IB; PLT. Joel D. Baugbug Jr., OIC-COP Panamao MPS; PLTCol. Sabri J. Lakibul, Force Commander of the Sulu 2nd PMFC; Mr. Abdulmusin A. Asari, Panamao Municipal Administrator, along with the Municipal Councilors of Panamao, BLGU representatives, and other stakeholders.
The settlement process was marked by a strong spirit of reconciliation, particularly during the resolution of the dispute between clans from Bud Seit and Kan-ukol. LTC. Estolas commended the Tausug community for their commitment to peace, highlighting the significance of their voluntary participation in the resolution process. Similarly, the peaceful resolution of the conflict in Barangay Lower Patibulan was recognized by PLTCol. Lakibul, who emphasized that reconciliation is a legacy for future generations, ensuring that past bloodshed does not define the years ahead.
Meanwhile, in Barangay Lakit, Mr. Asari underscored the spiritual and social importance of resolving conflicts, noting that true faith and kindness are best reflected in a community that values harmony over prolonged disputes. His statement resonated with many in attendance, reinforcing the shared goal of creating a secure and peaceful environment.
The successful resolution of these disputes not only benefits the directly affected clans but also strengthens communal bonds and safeguards peace for future generations. The event culminated in a ceremonial handshake and photo opportunity, symbolizing the commitment to unity and the triumph of peace over division.
