Palimbang, Sultan Kudarat – A fierce encounter erupted between government forces and remnants of the Sub-Regional Committee (SRC)-DAGUMA in Barangay Baluan, Palimbang, Sultan Kudarat, on the morning of March 1, 2025.
At approximately 11:00 AM, the 1st Platoon of Bravo Company, 57th Infantry Battalion (57IB), led by 2nd Lieutenant Kit Joshua M. Pedro, engaged an estimated 20 Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) members in a firefight. The exchange resulted in the neutralization of one enemy combatant and the recovery of several firearms and improvised explosive devices (IEDs), dealing a significant blow to the group’s operational capacity. Among the seized weapons were an M16 rifle and an M14 rifle.
Lieutenant Colonel Aeron T. Gumabao, Commander of the 57IB, commended his troops for their swift and decisive action in protecting the communities of Palimbang. He reaffirmed their commitment to eliminating the remnants of SRC-DAGUMA, ensuring that they no longer pose a threat to local peace and security.
Meanwhile, Brigadier General Michael A. Santos, Commander of the 603rd Infantry Brigade, praised the troops for their courage and professionalism in executing the operation. He reiterated that the government remains steadfast in its efforts to neutralize armed groups disrupting peace in the province.
“This operation sends a clear message that we will not tolerate lawless elements in our communities,” BGen. Santos stated. “We urge the remaining CTG members to abandon their armed struggle and return to the fold of the law. The government offers a path to peace and reconciliation for those who choose to surrender.”
As follow-up operations intensify, the Persuader Brigade continues to pursue the fleeing rebels to prevent further security threats in Barangay Baluan and nearby areas. Authorities urge residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to help maintain peace and stability in the region.
