KIDAPAWAN CITY – (February 28, 2025) The City Government of Kidapawan has reinforced its commitment to supporting vulnerable children by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Mindanao Children’s Library Foundation Inc. (MCLF) and launching the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program.

The MOU signing, held earlier today, was personally attended by City Mayor Atty. Jose Paolo M. Evangelista, City Social Welfare and Development Officer Daisy P. Gaviola, MCLF President Engineer Dannie M. Desaca, MCLF Admin Officer Noemi F. Pacete, and MCLF Executive Director Aprilyn Dizon-Matsui. The agreement focuses on the welfare of street children, orphans, and young victims of abuse.

Mayor Evangelista expressed his heartfelt gratitude to MCLF for its continuous efforts in providing education and scholarship programs for children from elementary to college levels. The foundation, based in Barangay Manongol, has long been dedicated to uplifting the lives of disadvantaged youth through education and support services.

Meanwhile, on the same day, DSWD introduced its Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program to the Kidapawan City Government. According to Provincial Team Leader Ealfae Lutan, SWO II, the initiative aims to assist children struggling with reading while also serving as a cash-for-work program for college students who will act as tutors. This provides not only educational support for children but also financial aid for tutors pursuing their studies.

Mayor Evangelista warmly welcomed the program, recognizing its potential to significantly aid both children and parents in improving literacy skills. The event was also attended by City Social Welfare and Development Officer Daisy P. Gaviola, CSWDO Project Development Officer Michael Joseph S. Salera, and other DSWD personnel.

With these initiatives, Kidapawan City continues to take significant steps toward improving the lives of underprivileged children and promoting education as a pathway to a better future.
