In celebration of World Water Day (WWD) 2025, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region 12, alongside various stakeholders, collected a total of 1,755 kilograms of mixed waste, primarily non-biodegradable, from different water bodies across the region. This year’s WWD carried the theme “Glacier Preservation: Bayanihan sa Katubigan, Krisis sa Klima Labanan,” emphasizing collective efforts in water conservation and the fight against climate change.
DENR-12 Regional Executive Director Atty. Felix S. Alicer highlighted the significance of unity in addressing environmental challenges, particularly the urgent need to mitigate the impact of melting glaciers on global water resources. He stressed that the cleanup drive is a concrete action in promoting water conservation and raising awareness about climate issues.
More than 200 participants from DENR, local government units (LGUs), national government agencies, the private sector, and local communities took part in the cleanup activities. The initiative covered key areas in General Santos, Kidapawan, and Tacurong, as well as the municipalities of Glan and Kiamba in Sarangani Province.
The activity demonstrated the power of collective action in tackling environmental concerns, reinforcing the call for sustainable waste management and proactive climate initiatives. DENR-12 continues to advocate for stronger partnerships among government agencies, private entities, and the public to ensure the protection and preservation of water resources in the region.
