ZAMBOANGA CITY – In a significant breakthrough against human trafficking, the Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) has successfully rescued fourteen (14) victims, most of whom were vulnerable children aged between 2 to 12 years old. The operation, executed under the leadership of Acting City Director PCOL Kimberly Molitas, highlights the city’s intensified efforts to combat human trafficking.
The City Intelligence Unit (CIU-ZCPO), led by PLTCOL Hartzel Peter Billedo, carried out the rescue operation in close coordination with the Sea-Based Anti-Trafficking Task Force (SBATTF) and local Barangay Officials from Barangay Talon-Talon. The collaborative effort led to the arrest of two individuals allegedly responsible for the trafficking ring. The suspects are now in custody at the NBI-WMRO 9 Detention Facility, where they await proper documentation and legal proceedings.
The rescued victims have been safely transported to the PCDP DSWD facility in Barangay Mampang, where they are receiving immediate care and support services. Authorities assured that all necessary interventions, including medical and psychological assistance, are being provided to help them recover from the ordeal.
PCOL Molitas reaffirmed the ZCPO’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding the most vulnerable members of society. “Human trafficking is a grave violation of human rights, and we will continue to strengthen our efforts to dismantle these criminal networks. The safety of our children is our utmost priority,” she stated.
Zamboanga City’s strategic location near key maritime routes has made it a hotspot for illegal activities, including human trafficking. However, the local police, in partnership with various law enforcement agencies, remain resolute in their mission to curb these crimes through interagency collaboration and vigilant policing.
The success of this operation underscores the importance of community involvement in crime prevention. The ZCPO urges citizens, particularly parents, to remain vigilant and proactive in protecting children from potential exploitation. Authorities encourage the public to report suspicious activities to the police to help prevent further instances of trafficking.
The ZCPO, together with the local government and other concerned agencies, continues to work tirelessly to ensure the safety and well-being of Zamboanga City’s residents. While the fight against human trafficking is far from over, the recent operation sends a strong message that exploitation will not be tolerated.
For any information regarding human trafficking or suspicious activities, the public is encouraged to reach out to law enforcement agencies for immediate action.
