ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — Three minors were successfully rescued and one suspect was arrested during a joint law enforcement operation targeting online sexual abuse and exploitation of children (OSAEC) and child sexual abuse or exploitation materials (CSAEM) in Barangay Tigbalabag on June 10, 2026.

The operation was carried out under a Warrant to Search, Seize, and Examine Computer Data (WSSECD No. 01-2026) issued in connection with an intensified crackdown on human trafficking and online child exploitation networks operating in the region.

Authorities identified the arrested individual as a suspect now facing charges for violations of Republic Act No. 9208, as amended (Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act), Republic Act No. 7610 (Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act), and Republic Act No. 11930 (Anti-OSAEC and Anti-CSAEM Act).

Coordinated multi-agency strike

The high-impact operation was led by the Women and Children Protection Center – Mindanao Field Unit (WCPC-MFU), under the supervision of ACP Alfredo E. Jimenez of the Zamboanga Sea-Based Anti-Trafficking Task Force (ZSBATTF).

It was executed in coordination with multiple law enforcement and government agencies, including the Philippine National Police, the Department of Justice through its Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking, and the Department of Social Welfare and Development Region IX, alongside the Zamboanga City Police Office and the International Justice Mission.

Also involved were cybercrime and intelligence units, including the Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit 9, Coast Guard Intelligence Unit–Zamboanga, and other partner enforcement agencies, reflecting what authorities described as a “whole-of-government” approach against child exploitation networks.

Rescue of vulnerable victims

During the implementation of the search warrant and digital forensic examination of computer data, authorities successfully rescued three minor victims believed to have been subjected to exploitation.

The minors were immediately turned over to social welfare authorities for urgent protection, psychosocial support, and rehabilitation services.

Officials stressed that the rescue operation underscores the persistent threat of online and offline exploitation targeting vulnerable children, particularly in high-risk communities.

Digital evidence recovered

Authorities also confiscated and secured digital and electronic devices believed to contain evidence linked to trafficking and exploitation activities. These materials are now undergoing forensic examination and are expected to strengthen the criminal case against the suspect.

Law enforcement officials said the evidence recovery was crucial in dismantling the operational structure behind the alleged abuse.

Stronger crackdown on trafficking networks

The successful raid is part of intensified efforts by national and regional authorities to suppress OSAEC and human trafficking operations across Mindanao, particularly in Zamboanga City, which has been identified as a strategic focus area due to cross-border and online exploitation risks.

Officials emphasized that the coordinated action demonstrates increasing inter-agency capacity to detect, disrupt, and prosecute perpetrators, while ensuring immediate protection for victims.

Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to pursue all individuals involved in child exploitation networks, warning that similar operations will continue in the coming months as surveillance and intelligence efforts are further strengthened.

Commitment to justice and child protection

Government agencies and partner organizations reiterated their unified stance: child exploitation will not be tolerated, and offenders will be held fully accountable under the law.

The rescued minors are currently under the care of social welfare professionals, while the suspect remains in custody awaiting legal proceedings.
