Payao, Zamboanga Sibugay – Authorities successfully apprehended three suspects in connection with a shooting incident that took place on February 11, 2025, at 4:30 PM in Purok 3, Barangay Nanan, Payao, Zamboanga Sibugay.

The victim, a 54-year-old farmer, sustained multiple gunshot wounds after being attacked by two unidentified assailants. Following an immediate investigation and pursuit operation led by the Payao Municipal Police Station (MPS) in coordination with the Provincial Intelligence Unit (PIU) and the Zamboanga Sibugay Police Provincial Office (ZSBPPO), three suspects were arrested at 11:22 PM on the same day. The suspects, all residents of Barangay Palinta, Kabasalan, Zamboanga Sibugay, were taken into custody.

During the operation, authorities recovered the following items:

  • One (1) caliber .45 pistol with a magazine containing six (6) live rounds
  • One (1) hand grenade
  • One (1) blue Yamaha XTZ 125 motorcycle without a license plate
  • One (1) black Suzuki Raider 150 motorcycle without a license plate

The arrested individuals are currently detained at the Payao MPS, where they face multiple charges related to the shooting incident.

PCOL Barnard Danie V. Dasugo, Provincial Director of ZSBPPO, reiterated the police force’s dedication to maintaining public safety. “We remain steadfast in protecting our community and addressing criminal activity. We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure everyone’s safety and security. This swift apprehension demonstrates our commitment to holding perpetrators accountable and creating a safe environment for all residents,” he stated.

Authorities continue their investigation to determine the motive behind the attack and whether additional individuals were involved. The ZSBPPO urges the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement efforts to ensure peace and order in the province.
