Davao de Oro took a significant step towards strengthening disaster resilience as the Provincial Government, in partnership with Alinea International, signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) today at the Capitol Lobby. This formalizes the launch of the Governance for Climate Disaster Resilience (Gov-CDR) Project, a comprehensive initiative focused on building long-term resilience and reducing vulnerability to natural disasters.
Mr. Edgardo B. Catalan, Country Manager for Alinea International, highlighted in his presentation that the Gov-CDR is a six-year project running from March 2024 to March 2030. Implemented by Alinea International and funded by Global Affairs Canada (GAC), the project aims to support the province in enhancing risk and hazard assessments, as well as improving strategies for disaster mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery while addressing the adverse effects of climate change.
Key dignitaries from Alinea International, including Ms. Marion M. Villanueva, Project Director, and Ms. Isabel Hernando, Senior International Assistance Officer, joined the event. Also present was OCD XI Regional Director Ednar Dayanghirang, who, along with provincial officials, signed the Commitment Board symbolizing their strengthened partnership in disaster resilience efforts.
Provincial Administrator Lewis Jake Caiman, department heads, PDRRMO Head Mr. Joseph Randy M. Loy, invited partners, and stakeholders from DILG, DOST, DENR, DOST-PAGASA, Nabunturan Balik Kinaiyahan Foundation, and DDOSC participated in the event, signifying strong multi-sectoral support for the initiative.
The Gov-CDR Project is expected to enhance the province’s capacity to respond to and recover from natural disasters, fostering a more resilient and sustainable future for Davao de Oro.
