In a significant move to uplift Indigenous Peoples (IP) communities in Northern Mindanao, the Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office 10 (DA-10) has extended agricultural support worth nearly PhP318,000 to the Panalsalan Dagumbaan Talaandig Tribe Association (PADATTA). The assistance, provided through the Kabuhayan at Kaunlaran ng Kababayang Katutubo (4K) program, aims to enhance the productivity and sustainability of IP farmers in Bukidnon.
On January 24, in Sitio Kawilihan, Dagumbaan, Maramag, Bukidnon, DA-10, led by Regional Executive Director Jose Apollo Y. Pacamalan and Program focal person April Grace M. Racines, formally turned over six carabaos valued at PhP300,000 and assorted vegetable seeds worth PhP17,995 to PADATTA. The event was conducted in coordination with the Municipal Agriculture Office of Maramag, with PADATTA President Bae Vilma Morena receiving the provisions on behalf of the association.
These agricultural interventions fall under the Production and Livelihood component of the 4K Program, which is designed to elevate the productivity and profitability of IP farmers. The support aims to empower PADATTA members by fostering sustainable agricultural enterprises, reinforcing their engagement in agricultural development, and ultimately improving their economic well-being.
The recent turnover builds on previous efforts to strengthen IP farmers’ capacities. Last November, select PADATTA members participated in training on corn production and postharvest technologies in Malaybalay City. The training equipped them with essential knowledge and skills to optimize their farming practices, complementing the newly provided resources.
By continuously supporting IP farmers through targeted interventions and capacity-building initiatives, DA-10 reaffirms its commitment to inclusive agricultural development. The agency’s ongoing efforts through the 4K program ensure that Indigenous communities receive the necessary support to thrive, contributing to both local and national food security.
