On the bright morning of December 24, 2024, a remarkable act of unity and environmental stewardship unfolded in the coastal town of Kiamba, Sarangani. At around 10:35 AM, a green sea turtle in distress was rescued thanks to the sharp observation of a resident in Purok Crismus, Barangay Nalus.

The turtle, an endangered species under RA 9147—the Wildlife Conservation and Protection Act—was spotted with a fishing hook embedded in its leg. Acting swiftly, the Kiamba Maritime Law Enforcement Team (MLET), the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO), and Bantay Dagat teams responded to the call for assistance, mobilizing their resources to ensure the turtle’s safety and wellbeing.

Upon reaching the scene, the rescue team carefully extracted the injured sea turtle and brought it to shore for immediate treatment. After the initial examination and documentation, the turtle was entrusted to MENRO for further care and rehabilitation, ensuring it will receive the necessary treatment to recover fully.
