The Department of Tourism (DOT) – Caraga Region, in partnership with various local government units, successfully conducted a series of Local Tourism Development Plan (LTDP) workshops and orientations aimed at enhancing the region’s tourism industry. These initiatives spanned multiple municipalities in Surigao del Norte from December 2-6, 2024, underscoring the region’s dedication to sustainable tourism growth.
Socorro LTDP Workshop
From December 2-3, the Municipality of Socorro hosted a two-day LTDP workshop at the Mayor’s Office. Organized in collaboration with the local government through its Municipal Tourism Office, the event saw active participation from local government representatives, tour operators, the coast guard, and the academe. With tourism identified as a key priority, Socorro is steadfast in its commitment to developing its Municipal Tourism Development Plan.
The workshop was facilitated by Miss Carminah E. Garcia, Senior Tourism Operations Officer of the Tourism Development Planning Division (TDPD) from the DOT Central Office, whose expertise guided the participants through the planning process.
Claver LTDP Workshop
Continuing its efforts, the DOT Caraga Region partnered with the Municipality of Claver to conduct a similar workshop on December 4-5, 2024. Representatives from the LGU, tourism-related enterprises (TREs), department heads, barangay-level officials, and local government agencies actively engaged in the two-day event.
The initiative focused on developing Claver’s Municipal Tourism Development Plan for 2026–2030, reflecting the municipality’s commitment to fostering sustainable tourism as a key driver of local development. Senior Tourism Operations Officer Carminah E. Garcia also led this workshop, ensuring continuity and coherence across the region’s planning efforts.
Bacuag LTDP Orientation
Rounding off the series, the Municipality of Bacuag hosted a one-day LTDP orientation on December 6, 2024, in partnership with the local government through its Municipal Tourism Office. The event, attended by representatives from LGUs, TREs, department heads, barangay officials, and local agencies, marked the municipality’s first step towards finalizing its Municipal Tourism Development Plan for 2026–2030.
As in the previous sessions, Senior Tourism Operations Officer Carminah E. Garcia provided invaluable insights to guide participants in crafting a comprehensive and sustainable tourism strategy.
