A Captivating Journey Through Caraga: TPB and DOT’s Immersive DTIP Event

From November 10-17, 2024, the Philippine Tourism Promotions Board (TPB), in collaboration with the Department of Tourism (DOT) Caraga and the Provincial Governments of Dinagat Islands and Surigao del Norte, orchestrated an unforgettable travel experience under the Domestic Tourism Invitational Program (DTIP). Bringing together local travel agencies and tour operators from across the Philippines, the week-long journey highlighted the captivating charm and vibrant culture of Caraga’s most iconic destinations.

Discovering the Mystique of Dinagat Islands

The adventure kicked off in the enchanting Dinagat Islands, known for their unspoiled white sand beaches and dramatic coastal scenery. The participants indulged in the region’s natural beauty while fostering connections through a mini business-to-business (B2B) session. Against the backdrop of turquoise waters and pristine shores, tourism stakeholders exchanged ideas, strengthening partnerships aimed at promoting domestic travel.

Thrills in Surigao City and Socorro

The itinerary continued with a fascinating city tour in Surigao City, the gateway to northern Mindanao. Participants explored local landmarks before embarking on a thrilling trek to Mapawa Cave in Barangay Mapawa, an adventure that offered a glimpse into Surigao’s rugged beauty.

Next, the group traveled to Socorro to experience the ethereal charm of Sohoton Cove. Home to majestic limestone formations, serene lagoons, and stingless jellyfish, this natural wonder left participants in awe of its tranquility and ecological significance.

Siargao’s Iconic Allure

No visit to Surigao del Norte would be complete without exploring Siargao Island, hailed as the Surfing Capital of the Philippines. The group immersed themselves in the island’s highlights, including the tri-island hopping adventure in General Luna, which brought them to the powdery shores of Naked Island, Daku Island, and Guyam Island.

The land tour of Siargao further unveiled its hidden gems, from picturesque palm tree-lined roads to breathtaking viewpoints. As the sun set, participants discovered the vibrant nightlife of Siargao, hopping from bar to bar and soaking in the island’s lively energy.

A Memorable Farewell

The event concluded on a high note with a heartfelt farewell dinner that showcased Caraga’s rich culture through traditional performances. DOT Caraga Regional Director Ivonnie B. Dumadag, represented by Ms. Kylee Doreene Q. Plaza, extended gratitude to all attendees, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in strengthening the region’s tourism industry. Hon. Gina Kozasa, speaking on behalf of General Luna Mayor Sol F. Matugas, echoed this sentiment, commending the TPB and DTIP participants for their efforts in promoting Caraga as a premier travel destination.

Strengthening Domestic Tourism

The DTIP event not only celebrated Caraga’s natural and cultural wealth but also reinforced the collective mission of the TPB and DOT to elevate domestic tourism. By connecting key industry players and showcasing the region’s unparalleled attractions, the program paved the way for more sustainable and inclusive growth in the Philippine travel sector.

As participants returned home, they carried with them not just memories of breathtaking landscapes and vibrant traditions but also a renewed commitment to sharing the beauty of Caraga with the rest of the world.
