Taganaan, Surigao del Norte — With the goal of transforming the municipality into a more vibrant and visitor-friendly destination, the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Taganaan is taking a proactive step toward tourism development. At the request of Mayor Cesar B. Diaz, Jr., the Department of Tourism (DOT) Caraga recently conducted a site validation activity for two proposed infrastructure projects geared toward enhancing the town’s tourism potential.
The joint validation team—composed of DOT Caraga representatives, the Municipal Tourism Officer, and key personnel from the LGU—visited strategic locations earmarked for the proposed Tourist Rest Area (TRA) and the Modular Dock and Floating Cottages. These initiatives are designed to improve access and comfort for travelers exploring the scenic coastal and island destinations within the municipality.
According to Mayor Diaz, these projects reflect Taganaan’s growing commitment to developing its tourism sector while preserving the natural beauty that defines the area. “With improved infrastructure, we hope to welcome more tourists, create more local livelihood opportunities, and promote our identity through our tourism tagline, ‘Taganaan Islands of Fun for Everyone,’” he said.
The proposed Tourist Rest Area aims to serve as a welcoming hub for visitors, offering basic amenities such as restrooms, information centers, and waiting lounges. Meanwhile, the Modular Dock and Floating Cottages are envisioned to elevate the experience of island-hopping and marine-based tourism—providing safer, more convenient, and more enjoyable ways for guests to explore the surrounding waters.
These plans align closely with the Department of Tourism Caraga’s thrust toward sustainable and inclusive tourism. By focusing on both infrastructure and local stakeholder engagement, DOT Caraga supports efforts that not only boost tourist arrivals but also generate economic benefits for the communities involved.
“This validation is an important step,” noted a DOT Caraga official. “We ensure that proposed projects are responsive to the needs of tourists and feasible for implementation, while also promoting environmental responsibility and cultural sensitivity.”
As Taganaan continues to position itself as an emerging destination in Surigao del Norte, the successful implementation of these projects could mark a turning point in the town’s tourism journey—one that balances development with sustainability, and economic growth with community empowerment.
