A major anti-smuggling operation led by the Regional Drug Enforcement Unit and other law enforcement agencies resulted in the interception of a vehicle carrying smuggled cigarettes valued at over PHP 1.5 million in Brgy. Nituan, Parang, Maguindanao del Norte. The early-morning operation on October 31, 2024, concluded with the arrest of a suspect and the seizure of contraband worth approximately PHP 1,554,000.
Acting on verified intelligence, a collaborative team comprising members of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 14, Technical Support Company (TSC), 1st PMFC MAGDN PPO, and Parang Municipal Police Station established a checkpoint at Brgy. Nituan. Reports indicated possible movement of illegal cigarettes in the area, leading the team to closely monitor incoming vehicles.
At around 1:00 AM, officers stopped a white Suzuki Multicab, with license plate MAX 2271, for inspection. Upon request, the driver, identified as a 28-year-old resident from Brgy Tambara, Malabang, Lanao del Sur, failed to produce documentation for the items in the vehicle. A comprehensive inspection led to the discovery of 42 boxes, each containing 50 reams of cigarettes, concealed inside the vehicle. Each box, valued at PHP 37,000, accounted for the total estimated market value of the seized goods.
The seized vehicle, cigarettes, and suspect were brought to the Parang Municipal Police Station, where further investigation, documentation, and the filing of charges against the suspect are underway. The case will be submitted to the Office of the Prosecutor to ensure legal action.
