Cotabato City, Philippines – In a harrowing incident on Saturday evening, two barangay officials were shot and injured in the Virgo Subdivision, Rosary Heights 9, Cotabato City. The victims, identified as Barangay Kagawad Jordan Kalifa, 47, and Barangay Secretary Virlie Joy Quijano, 33, were attacked around 8:00 PM while carrying out their duties.
According to Police Station 2 Commander Capt. Teofisto Ferrer, Kalifa sustained gunshot wounds to his cheek, hand, and chest, while Quijano was hit in her side and hand. Both victims were rushed to a nearby hospital and are currently receiving medical care.
At the crime scene, authorities recovered at least 20 shell casings, which suggest a high-intensity attack. Investigations are ongoing, and the Cotabato City Police have launched a hot pursuit operation in an effort to identify and apprehend the assailants.
This incident has raised concerns in the community, especially occurring during the Undas observance, a time traditionally dedicated to honoring the deceased. Authorities have yet to determine the motive behind the attack, but police are actively gathering evidence and statements from possible witnesses in hopes of bringing the perpetrators to justice.
