Siasi, Sulu – In a strategic operation on October 31, 2024, troops from the 104th Infantry Battalion of the 1101st Infantry Brigade, 11th Infantry (Alakdan) Division, successfully recovered a significant cache of firearms and ammunition without any shots being fired or resistance from individuals involved. The patrol was conducted in Brgy Bakud, Siasi, Sulu, at approximately 9:00 a.m.

Lieutenant Colonel Roy R. Dalumpines, the Commanding Officer of the 104th Infantry Battalion, led the operation, which resulted in the recovery of one M16A1 rifle with a defaced serial number, two M1 Carbines, one SMG BAR, along with five magazines for the SMG BAR, one M16A1 magazine, two magazines for the M1 Carbine, and a substantial amount of ammunition, including 23 rounds of 5.56mm, 27 rounds of .30 caliber, and 126 rounds of .30 caliber ball rounds. A bandolier was also recovered, underscoring the large-scale nature of the haul.
This action was prompted by reports from concerned citizens who observed individuals openly carrying firearms, raising concerns and tension within the local community. Acting on these reports, government troops launched a combat patrol to secure the area and prevent potential conflicts. The confiscated weapons were immediately transported to the 104IB Battalion Headquarters for processing and proper handling.
Expressing gratitude for the community’s support, Lieutenant Colonel Dalumpines stated, “We are very much thankful to the concerned citizens who provided us with timely information, allowing us to take swift action. We appeal to the public to avoid carrying unlicensed firearms, as they will be confiscated immediately. Our operation reflects a dedicated effort to curb the gun culture and maintain the rule of law in our area. By addressing the presence of illegal firearms, we aim to prevent potential conflicts, such as RIDO cases, and protect the community from future violence.”
The operation highlights the military’s ongoing commitment to ensuring safety and stability in Sulu, encouraging local citizens to cooperate with security forces in efforts to reduce violence and promote peace.
