Mambajao Launches Advanced 911 Emergency Response Center to Boost Tourism and Public Safety

Mambajao, the capital town of Camiguin, has launched its first-ever 911 emergency response command center to enhance public safety, disaster preparedness, and support its growing tourism industry. The center, which became operational on October 18, 2024, is equipped with Next Generation 911 technology, in partnership with global emergency services provider NGA 911.

Mayor Yñigo Jesus Romualdo highlighted the significance of this initiative, stating that the increasing number of tourists and the need for improved public safety inspired the local government to modernize its emergency services. “This 911 center is a game-changer, offering quicker response times and better coordination among agencies. It boosts Mambajao’s appeal as a safe and secure destination for tourists and investors,” Romualdo said.

The new facility, which caters to both residents and tourists, can handle various emergencies, from medical incidents to road accidents. With 90% accuracy in locating callers, the system ensures quicker response times, especially for incidents in high-traffic tourist spots like diving sites and beaches.

NGA Philippines Country Head Robert Llaguno emphasized that the system fully records all 911 calls and provides seamless call transfers, making emergency response more efficient. The partnership with NGA 911 equips Mambajao with advanced technology used in the US and Europe, enabling better coordination and faster assistance during emergencies.

Mambajao’s commitment to safety also aligns with its goal of becoming a top tourist destination. The improved emergency response system not only protects lives but also enhances the town’s reputation as a safe, world-class destination. The local government believes this initiative will drive tourism growth while ensuring the well-being of visitors and residents.

The 911 center is part of the town’s vision for a resilient community, offering state-of-the-art emergency services to address a variety of crises, from natural disasters to everyday incidents. As Mambajao continues to attract more visitors, the new command center plays a crucial role in ensuring public safety and supporting sustainable tourism growth.
