Cagayan de Oro City, October 1, 2024 – Authorities seized approximately ₱510,000 worth of suspected shabu in a joint buy-bust operation in Barangay Gusa, Cagayan de Oro City. The operation, conducted by multiple law enforcement agencies, led to the arrest of the suspect identified as alias “Jason,” a 42-year-old resident of the area.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Demver M. Vergara, chief of the Regional Police Drug Enforcement Unit 10, confirmed that the suspect was apprehended during the successful operation. The operation was a collaboration between the Regional Police Drug Enforcement Unit 10, the Regional Intelligence Unit Division 10, Cagayan de Oro City Police Station 5, the PNP Drug Enforcement Unit 10, and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Region 10.
Evidence Recovered
During the buy-bust, officers confiscated 18 packets of suspected shabu weighing a total of 75 grams, with an estimated street value of ₱510,000. Additional evidence, including a digital weighing scale, three zip locks, a black sling bag, and the ₱500 buy-bust money used during the operation, were also seized from the suspect.
Charges Filed
The arrested suspect now faces charges for violating Republic Act 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, and is expected to be prosecuted as law enforcement authorities continue their crackdown on illegal drug activities in the region.
Police Leadership Praises Efforts
PBGen Jaysen C. De Guzman, Acting Regional Director of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Northern Mindanao, praised the operating units for the successful operation. “We will never let up our campaign against illegal drugs. We assure the public that PRO 10, in coordination with other law enforcement agencies, will continue to arrest illegal drug peddlers until they are placed behind bars,” De Guzman stated.
He further urged the public to actively participate in the campaign by reporting any suspicious or illegal drug activities, emphasizing that the community’s cooperation is essential in maintaining the region’s safety.
The operation marks another victory in the ongoing battle against illegal drugs in Cagayan de Oro and the wider Northern Mindanao region.
