Nasipit, Agusan del Norte — In a strong show of environmental stewardship, the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) of Nasipit has intensified its greening initiatives, planting 650 forest tree seedlings across selected sites in Nasipit and Butuan City as part of the 2025 Earth Month celebration.

With this year’s Earth Month theme, “Our Power, Our Planet,” the tree planting activity, held from April 2 to 11, gathered the support of 283 volunteers from different sectors, including the Department of Education (DepEd), Saint Michael College of Caraga (SMCC) Community Service Extension, Couples for Christ-Youth for Christ (CFC-YFC) Sector B, Cluster 3, Alano and Sons Credit Corporation, and Oro Integrated Cooperative-Butuan Branch.

The seedlings were planted in Sitio San Roque, Barangay Punta; Mt. Kasunogan in Sitio Calonia, Barangay Aclan; Sumagayad in Barangay Culit, all within Nasipit town, and in Barangay Anticala, Butuan City. These efforts are part of CENRO Nasipit’s continuing support for the Department of Environment and Natural Resources’ (DENR) goal of expanding the country’s forest cover and fostering climate resilience at the local level.

Beyond commemorating Earth Month, this reforestation initiative underscores the critical role of tree planting in restoring degraded ecosystems, reducing carbon emissions, and mitigating the harsh effects of climate change. Forests are nature’s own climate defense system—acting as carbon sinks, conserving biodiversity, protecting water resources, and offering livelihoods to countless communities.

As climate change continues to threaten ecosystems and human well-being, collective action such as this highlights how local communities and institutions can be powerful allies in global environmental restoration. Strengthening forest landscapes not only improves air and water quality but also builds healthier, more resilient environments for present and future generations.

The CENRO Nasipit’s Earth Month initiative serves as a reminder that environmental responsibility is a shared duty, and every tree planted is a step forward in combating climate change and preserving the planet’s natural wealth.
