Kabacan, Cotabato – Authorities confiscated a firearm and ammunition from a tricycle driver during an Oplan Kapkap operation conducted in Purok 5, Barangay Osias, Kabacan, Cotabato, on the night of February 11, 2025.

According to Police Lieutenant Colonel Miredel R. Calinga, Officer-in-Charge of the Kabacan Municipal Police Station, the suspect, identified as alias “Sam,” a 26-year-old tricycle driver and a resident of Barangay Balong, Pikit, Cotabato, was apprehended after being found in possession of an unlicensed firearm.

The police operation took place around 11:00 PM, where officers conducted a routine patrol and weapons frisking. During the inspection, law enforcement officers discovered a caliber .45 pistol, a magazine, and several rounds of ammunition in the suspect’s possession. However, the suspect failed to present the necessary documentation for the firearm, leading to his immediate arrest.

The suspect is now facing charges for violating Republic Act 10591, also known as the “Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act,” as well as the Omnibus Election Code.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) continues its intensified campaign against loose firearms, strictly prohibiting the possession of unlicensed guns. Authorities also reiterated the strict implementation of the gun ban to ensure a peaceful and orderly election period.
