CAMP ALAGAR, Cagayan de Oro City – Authorities have apprehended 29 individuals for violating the election gun ban since its implementation on January 12, 2025, as part of intensified efforts to curb election-related violence in Northern Mindanao. A total of 28 firearms and over 200 rounds of ammunition have also been confiscated in a series of law enforcement operations.
According to the Police Regional Office 10 (PRO10), enforcement efforts included checkpoint operations, police patrols, and various law enforcement interventions. As of February 11, 2025, checkpoint operations alone have led to the arrest of eight individuals and the seizure of seven firearms, along with 81 rounds of ammunition. Meanwhile, separate police operations resulted in the arrest of 21 violators, confiscation of 21 firearms, and recovery of 148 rounds of ammunition.
Among those apprehended were three uniformed personnel, one security guard, and 25 civilians.
PBGEN Jaysen C. De Guzman, Regional Director of PRO10, stressed the importance of enforcing the election gun ban to ensure public safety and uphold the integrity of the democratic process.
“We remain steadfast in our duty to enforce the election gun ban and uphold the integrity of the democratic process. The results of our operations demonstrate our dedication to keeping our communities safe and preventing unlawful possession of firearms. We urge everyone to adhere to the regulations set by the COMELEC and report any suspicious activities,” he stated.
PRO10 has vowed to intensify its monitoring efforts, with additional operations planned throughout the election period. Authorities are encouraging the public to remain vigilant and support law enforcement in maintaining peace and order.
