ZAMBOANGA CITY — Police authorities seized a caliber .45 pistol, ammunition, a magazine and an unidentified long firearm during the implementation of a search warrant in Purok 7, Barangay Recodo, Zamboanga City, shortly after midnight on September 11, 2026.
The operation was carried out at around 12:40 a.m. by personnel of the Zamboanga City Police Station 9 (Ayala) under the leadership of P/Capt. Edwin S. Truza, with members of the Tactical Support Company (TSC) of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 9 (RMFB 9) and the S2/RMFB 9.
Police identified the person subjected to the search as a 55-year-old man known by the alias “Pablo,” a resident of Barangay Recodo. He was subsequently taken into police custody at PS-9 Ayala for proper disposition and further investigation.
Caliber .45 pistol, ammunition recovered
Authorities reported recovering the following items during the search:
- One Norinco 1911 caliber .45 pistol, bearing serial number BA 12938;
- Five rounds of live ammunition;
- One stainless-steel magazine; and
- One unidentified type of long firearm.
The seizure was made in connection with an alleged violation of Section 28(b) of Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
The recovery of both a handgun and an unidentified long firearm is significant as authorities continue to enforce firearms regulations and strengthen security operations in Zamboanga City, particularly amid heightened security concerns in the region.
Police said the seized firearms and ammunition would be subjected to the appropriate documentation and investigation procedures. The authorities are also expected to establish the ownership, registration status and circumstances surrounding the possession of the firearms.
The suspect remains in police custody while the case is being processed in accordance with law.
Authorities reiterated that the possession, acquisition and use of firearms must comply with the requirements of RA 10591, and that individuals found in unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition may face criminal charges.
