MINDANAO — Residents across Mindanao are advised to prepare for another day of unsettled weather as the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) forecast widespread cloudy skies, scattered rainshowers, and thunderstorms across the island due to the prevailing Trough of a Low Pressure Area (LPA).
In its Regional Weather Forecast for the Mindanao PAGASA Regional Services Division (MINPRSD) issued at 5:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 1, 2026, PAGASA said the weather condition will remain in effect until 5:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 2.
Meteorologists warned that moderate to, at times, heavy rainfall could trigger flash floods and landslides, particularly in low-lying communities, flood-prone areas, and mountainous or landslide-susceptible locations.
Rainy Weather to Affect Entire Mindanao
The trough of the LPA is expected to bring cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms over virtually the entire Mindanao, including:
- Zamboanga Peninsula
- Northern Mindanao
- Davao Region
- SOCCSKSARGEN
- Caraga Region
- Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM)
PAGASA said localized thunderstorms may produce intense rainfall within short periods, increasing the likelihood of sudden flooding in urban areas and overflowing rivers and creeks.
Residents are encouraged to closely monitor weather bulletins, especially those living near rivers, coastal communities, and areas with histories of flooding or landslides.
Winds and Sea Conditions
Throughout the forecast period, light to moderate south to southwest winds will prevail across Mindanao.
Coastal waters are expected to remain slight to moderate, with wave heights ranging from 0.6 to 1.8 meters, making conditions generally manageable for most fishing boats and small seacraft. However, PAGASA still advised mariners to exercise caution during thunderstorms, which can produce sudden strong winds and rough seas.
Regional Outlook
Zamboanga Peninsula
Cloudy skies with rainshowers and thunderstorms are expected over Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay, and Isabela City. Daytime temperatures are forecast to range between 29°C and 34°C, depending on location.
Northern Mindanao
Bukidnon, Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental, and Misamis Oriental will continue to experience cloudy conditions with intermittent rains and thunderstorms. Temperatures are expected to range from 21°C to 32°C, with Bukidnon remaining among the coolest areas due to its elevation.
Davao Region
Metro Davao, Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro, and Davao Occidental are forecast to experience persistent cloud cover accompanied by rainshowers and thunderstorms. Temperatures will generally range between 21°C and 30°C.
SOCCSKSARGEN
North Cotabato, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, and Sarangani will likewise see cloudy skies with periods of rain and thunderstorms. Forecast temperatures will range from 20°C to 31°C.
Caraga Region
Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Dinagat Islands are expected to experience similar weather conditions, with temperatures ranging between 22°C and 32°C.
BARMM
Cotabato City, Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Norte, Maguindanao del Sur, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi will also remain under cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms. Temperatures across the region are forecast to range from 23°C to 34°C, with Sulu and Tawi-Tawi expected to be among the warmest areas.
Public Advised to Remain Alert
PAGASA urged the public to remain vigilant as thunderstorms may become severe in isolated areas, producing heavy downpours, lightning, and gusty winds.
Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices (LDRRMOs), local government units, motorists, farmers, fisherfolk, and residents in vulnerable communities are advised to continuously monitor official weather advisories and be prepared for possible weather-related emergencies.
Authorities also remind the public to avoid crossing swollen rivers, stay away from landslide-prone slopes during prolonged rainfall, and immediately report any signs of flooding or ground movement to local emergency responders.
