PRESIDENT QUIRINO, Sultan Kudarat — A man was shot dead after being attacked by an unidentified gunman on Friday afternoon, July 31, in Purok Pag-asa, Barangay Katico, President Quirino, Sultan Kudarat.

The victim was identified as Jonathan “Tikbong” Marquez, a bachelor and a resident of Purok Pag-asa, Barangay Katico.

According to initial information gathered by authorities, Marquez sustained a gunshot wound to the head, resulting in his instantaneous death at the scene. Responding authorities declared the victim dead on arrival at the crime scene as they conducted the initial investigation.

Investigators have yet to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack, including the number of suspects involved and the type of firearm used. The assailant immediately fled the area following the shooting and remains at large.

Police investigators have launched a full-scale investigation to establish the motive behind the killing, identify the gunman, and gather evidence that could lead to the arrest of those responsible. Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) and responding police personnel processed the crime scene and collected pieces of evidence that may aid in the investigation.

Authorities have not ruled out any possible motives, including personal grudge or other angles, pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) is also appealing to members of the public who may have witnessed the incident or possess information that could help identify the suspect to immediately coordinate with the nearest police station. Investigators said community cooperation will be crucial in ensuring the swift resolution of the case and bringing the perpetrator to justice.

The fatal shooting adds to the series of gun-related incidents being monitored in parts of Mindanao, highlighting the continuing efforts of law enforcement agencies to curb violent crimes and hold offenders accountable.

Police assured the victim’s family that all available investigative resources are being utilized to identify and apprehend the suspect as soon as possible.

The investigation remains ongoing.
