A grieving family in Barangay Latian, Kiblawan, Davao del Sur is calling for a thorough investigation after an infant was found lifeless inside their home, with relatives alleging that the child may have been attacked by an “aswang”—a claim that authorities have not verified.

The incident gained widespread attention on social media after the child’s aunt, identified as Mie Let Ancheta Masuela, shared an emotional post describing the family’s ordeal.
According to the family, the infant was reportedly healthy and showed no signs of illness before going to sleep. They said the baby was even breastfed in the early hours of the morning without any indication of health problems.
However, when family members checked on the child the following morning, they discovered the infant was no longer breathing. They also claimed to have noticed several wounds on the child’s body, which led some relatives to speculate that the injuries were caused by an “aswang,” a mythical creature in Philippine folklore believed by some to prey on people, particularly children.
The heartbreaking incident prompted the family to seek public assistance through social media, expressing their desire to uncover the true cause of the child’s sudden death and appealing for a proper investigation.
Despite the viral claims circulating online, there has been no official statement from the Philippine National Police or other authorities confirming any connection between the incident and the alleged involvement of an “aswang.”
Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the child’s death. As of this writing, the exact cause of death has not yet been established, and no official findings have been released.
Officials have urged the public to avoid spreading unverified information while the investigation is ongoing. The allegation involving an “aswang” remains unsubstantiated and should be regarded solely as the family’s belief unless supported by evidence from the authorities or medical examination.
The investigation is expected to determine the actual cause of the infant’s death and whether the injuries observed by the family were related to any medical condition, external factors, or other circumstances.
