ZAMBOANGA CITY — A 39-year-old farmer was shot dead in another violent incident that occurred in Barangay Ayala on Sunday night, June 28, adding to growing concerns over gun-related crimes in the area.

The victim was identified by authorities as Allan Abdulla Umawas, 39, a resident of Zone 6, Barangay Ayala. He was reportedly living with his partner and earned his livelihood as a farmer.

According to initial reports, the shooting took place at around 9:00 p.m. in front of Ayala National High School in Zone 6, Barangay Ayala.

Residents and responding authorities immediately rushed Umawas to the nearest hospital in an effort to save his life. However, attending physicians declared him dead on arrival (DOA) due to the severity of the gunshot wounds he sustained.

Police have yet to disclose the identity of the gunman or the motive behind the attack. Investigators are currently conducting an extensive investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the killing, identify the suspects, and establish whether the incident was premeditated or linked to previous violent crimes in the area.

Authorities are also reviewing possible evidence and interviewing witnesses who may have seen the shooting or the movements of the assailant before and after the incident.

The fatal attack is the latest in a series of shooting incidents reported in Zamboanga City, prompting renewed calls from residents for intensified police visibility and stronger measures to curb gun violence.

As of this writing, no arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing.
