ILIGAN CITY, Philippines — Three men from Marawi City were arrested by police after allegedly firing a gun along Aguinaldo Street in Barangay Poblacion, Iligan City, late Wednesday night, August 12, 2026.
Police Station 5 personnel responded to the reported gunfire at around 11:45 p.m., after an altercation allegedly broke out between two groups at a drinking establishment in the area. According to the initial police account, the three suspects allegedly fired a firearm following the confrontation and attempted to leave the area aboard a van.
Responding police officers reportedly caught up with the men and took them into custody. The incident occurred in the vicinity of Zoeys in Barangay Poblacion, according to a separate community advisory regarding the arrest.
Police recovered a caliber .45 pistol from the area, along with eight rounds of ammunition and one spent shell casing.
Authorities said none of the three men admitted to firing the weapon. Police subsequently subjected them to a paraffin test, while closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage was also examined to help establish who allegedly fired the gun.
The three suspects remain in police custody while investigators pursue the necessary procedures and prepare the appropriate charges. Authorities said the suspects may face complaints for alleged violations of Republic Act No. 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, as well as Illegal Discharge of Firearms.
Police emphasized that the investigation remains ongoing and that the allegations will have to undergo the proper legal process. The identities of the suspects were not provided in the information available.
