The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has issued a fresh regional weather forecast warning of continued localized thunderstorms affecting large parts of Mindanao from 5:00 AM today, April 16, 2026, until 5:00 AM tomorrow.

In its latest advisory for the Mindanao Regional Services Division (MINPRSD), PAGASA said Mindanao will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms, driven by localized thunderstorm activity across the region.

Risk of Flooding and Landslides

Weather officials cautioned that flash floods and landslides are possible during severe thunderstorm activity, especially in low-lying and mountainous areas that are highly vulnerable to heavy downpours.

Communities in flood-prone river basins and landslide-prone slopes are advised to remain vigilant, particularly during late afternoon and evening thunderstorms.

Strong Winds and Rough Seas in Eastern Mindanao

PAGASA also reported moderate to strong winds from the northeast to north, particularly affecting the eastern section of Mindanao.

Sea conditions in these areas are expected to be moderate to rough, ranging from 1.5 to 2.8 meters, posing risks to small seacraft and coastal activities.

Meanwhile, other parts of Mindanao will experience light to moderate winds with slight to moderate sea conditions (0.6 to 1.8 meters).

Fisherfolk and sea travelers are advised to check conditions before venturing out to sea.

Zamboanga Peninsula: Intermittent Rain and Thunderstorms

In the Zamboanga Peninsula, including Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay, and Isabela City, skies will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.

Temperatures will range from 21°C to 35°C, with light to moderate northeast-to-north winds and slight to moderate coastal seas.

Northern Mindanao: Warm and Humid with Isolated Rain

In Northern Mindanao, including Bukidnon, Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental, and Misamis Oriental, similar weather conditions are expected.

Areas will see warm daytime temperatures up to 35°C, followed by scattered thunderstorms in the afternoon or evening. Coastal waters remain generally slight to moderate but may become choppy during storm activity.

Davao Region: Strong Winds and Rough Seas Expected

The Davao Region will experience more intense conditions, with moderate to strong winds from the northeast to north and moderate to rough seas, especially along coastal areas.

Metro Davao, Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental, and Davao de Oro may experience temperatures between 22°C and 35°C, with thunderstorms likely developing in the afternoon or evening.

SOCCSKSARGEN and BARMM: Unstable Weather Continues

In SOCCSKSARGEN, including South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, and North Cotabato, partly cloudy skies with isolated thunderstorms will persist, with temperatures reaching up to 35°C.

Meanwhile, the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), including Cotabato City, Maguindanao provinces, Lanao del Sur, Sulu, Basilan, and Tawi-Tawi, will also experience scattered thunderstorms with generally light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas.

Caraga Region: Choppy Seas, Thunderstorm Activity Expected

In the Caraga Region, including Agusan and Surigao provinces and Dinagat Islands, PAGASA expects moderate to strong winds and rough sea conditions, particularly along eastern coastal areas.

Thunderstorms remain likely across inland and coastal provinces, with temperatures ranging from 22°C to 33°C.

Advisory to the Public

PAGASA urged the public to remain alert for sudden weather changes, especially during late afternoon and nighttime when thunderstorms are most likely to develop.

Residents in affected areas are advised to:

  • Avoid crossing swollen rivers and flood-prone roads
  • Secure loose outdoor objects
  • Monitor official weather updates
  • Exercise caution when traveling by sea or land

The agency emphasized that while no tropical cyclone is currently affecting the country, localized thunderstorms remain a significant hazard across Mindanao over the forecast period.
