Widespread localized thunderstorms are expected to bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers across Mindanao over the next 24 hours, according to the latest regional forecast issued by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration Mindanao Regional Services Division (MINPRSD).

The forecast, valid from 5:00 a.m. Friday until 5:00 a.m. Saturday, indicates that most parts of the island will experience unstable weather conditions driven by localized thunderstorm activity. While rainfall is expected to be intermittent, authorities warned that severe thunderstorms may trigger flash floods and landslides, particularly in low-lying and mountainous areas.

Thunderstorms Across Key Regions

In the Zamboanga Peninsula, including Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay, and Isabela City, residents can expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies with rainshowers or thunderstorms throughout the day. Temperatures will range from 23°C to 35°C, with light to moderate winds blowing from the east to northeast and coastal waters remaining slight to moderate.

Similar conditions will prevail across Northern Mindanao, covering Bukidnon, Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental, and Misamis Oriental. Temperatures in these areas will range between 21°C and 34°C.

Davao and SOCCSKSARGEN Under Watch

In the Davao Region, including Davao City, Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro, and Davao Occidental, similar weather patterns are forecast, with temperatures reaching up to 35°C.

Meanwhile, provinces under SOCCSKSARGEN—such as North Cotabato, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, and Sarangani—will also experience scattered thunderstorms, with daytime temperatures ranging from 23°C to 34°C.

Caraga and BARMM Also Affected

The Caraga Region, including Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Dinagat Islands, will see comparable weather conditions, with temperatures peaking at 35°C.

In the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, including Cotabato City, Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Maguindanao del Norte, and Maguindanao del Sur, residents are likewise advised to remain alert for sudden downpours and thunderstorms. Temperatures in the region will range from 21°C to 35°C.

Winds and Coastal Conditions

Across Mindanao, winds will generally be light to moderate, coming from the east to northeast. Coastal waters are expected to remain slight to moderate, with wave heights ranging from 0.4 to 1.8 meters—conditions that are generally safe but may become hazardous during thunderstorms.

Public Advisory

PAGASA urged the public, especially those living in flood-prone and landslide-prone areas, to stay vigilant and monitor updates from local authorities. Fisherfolk and small seacraft operators were also advised to exercise caution, particularly when thunderstorms develop offshore.

Despite generally fair intervals, the weather bureau emphasized that localized thunderstorms can develop rapidly, bringing intense rainfall within short periods.

“Tracking the sky and helping the country,” PAGASA reiterated, as it continues to monitor weather developments across Mindanao.
