A couple from Barangay Silae, Malaybalay City learned the hard way that struggling together can also mean falling together—especially when the path they chose involved the illegal drug trade.

The two, known only by their aliases Angie, 33, and Den, 42, both farmers, were arrested in a drug buy-bust operation conducted by the CDEU-Malaybalay around 4:12 p.m. on November 17, 2025, at Purok 5, Barangay Silae.

During the operation, Den allegedly sold a sachet of suspected shabu worth ₱500 to an undercover agent. A subsequent body search yielded five more sachets of suspected shabu weighing around 5 grams, with an estimated street value of ₱34,000, along with the marked buy-bust money.

The couple admitted that they resorted to selling illegal drugs to cope with daily financial struggles, saying they were not users themselves. But authorities stressed that whatever the reason, dealing drugs only leads to deeper trouble—for themselves, their family, and the community.

Now detained at the Malaybalay City Police Station, the two face charges for violating RA 9165, ensuring that this Christmas season may be spent behind bars instead of at home.

Their arrest serves as a stark reminder: hardship should never justify entering the drug trade—because in the end, it destroys more than it saves.
