TUPI, South Cotabato — A 37-year-old man died after he was allegedly beaten by an unidentified suspect in Purok Pag-asa, Barangay Linan, Tupi, South Cotabato, in the early hours of Tuesday, August 4, authorities said.

The victim was identified by the Tupi Municipal Police Station (MPS) as Aldrin Ureta, 37, a resident of Barangay Lambayong, Tampakan, South Cotabato.

According to the initial police investigation, Ureta was found in the area after reportedly seeking help following the alleged assault. A concerned resident who found the victim immediately sought assistance from a neighbor, and together they rushed him to a nearby hospital for emergency medical treatment.

Despite efforts to save his life, the attending physician declared Ureta dead on arrival (DOA).

Police said they received a report from hospital personnel at around 3:40 a.m., prompting officers and investigators from the Tupi MPS to immediately respond and conduct an investigation at the scene.

Authorities are currently conducting a thorough investigation to identify the suspect or suspects involved and determine the motive behind the fatal assault. Investigators are also gathering physical evidence and possible witness accounts that could help establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The Tupi Municipal Police Station is preparing the appropriate spot report as part of the ongoing investigation. No arrests have been made as of this writing, and police continue to appeal to anyone with information that may help identify the perpetrator to come forward and coordinate with authorities.

The case remains under active investigation.
